Jim Jennings, aka “JJ”, has called Telluride home for 30 years but has traveled extensively. His dad was a pilot in the U.S. Navy, and the family moved several times, living in Hawaii, California, Texas and the greater NYC area. After a year of college, JJ set off to explore the world, and prior to moving to Telluride, he worked for Bechtel Engineering and various subcontractors on construction projects in Iraq and Iran and the Trans Alaska Pipeline and Arizona Nuclear Power Projects in the United States. He arrived in Telluride in 1987, immediately after the stock market crash.
Already a real estate broker in Colorado, JJ constructed master planned communities, similar to Telluride Mountain Village, in Colorado and Arizona. In 1997, he went to work for his friend Erik Fallenius at Nevasca Realty, now affiliated with Coldwell Banker Distinctive Properties.
Since that fortuitous time, JJ has listed and sold real estate in Telluride and Mountain Village, as well as ranch and mesa properties in the surrounding region and maintains real estate licenses in Colorado and Hawaii. He has worked on Telluride and Mountain Village subdivisions, constructed three duplex and triplex units, managed homeowner associations and several rental properties, and for a time, served as vice-chair of the Telluride Planning and Zoning Commission
The on-season/off-season nature of Telluride’s real estate market has given JJ opportunities to continue to pursue his personal passions: climbing, surfing, and skiing. He made an ascent to the summit cornice of Shishapangma North (26,246 feet) in the Himalayas, achieved the first ascent of Bridal Falls in Valdez, Alaska, and made multiple ascents of El Capitan in Yosemite. He has surfed on the North Shore of Oahu and has worked, skied, traveled, surfed, and/or climbed in 67 countries. In one of those countries – Brazil – JJ met his wife Anabel. They now have a son, James, who recently enrolled in the Telluride R-1 School District.
Despite his adventuresome spirit and love of world travel, JJ’s heart belongs to Telluride and the San Juan Mountains, and after 30 years, he knows the region very well. His greatest satisfaction in the real estate professional is helping people fulfill their goals, whether acquiring listings and executing them, building houses and renting them, or developing properties and closing deals. He understands that – essentially – it’s about one thing: fulfilling his clients’ needs and making them happy.
As an investor and property owner in the Telluride Colorado area since 1979 I have relied on Jim Jennings knowledge and expertise since our first transaction in 1992. Since then, I have conducted numerous transactions thru Jim all with a great deal of success.
